About Prof. Dr. Nawzia Yasmin

Professor Dr. Nawzia Yasmin is a distinguished academic leader and public health expert, currently serving as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the State University of Bangladesh (SUB). She also holds dual roles as the Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Professor in the Department of Public Health.
Dr. Yasmin has been a pivotal figure at SUB for more than two decades. She joined the university in 2003 as a Senior Lecturer and has since held several key leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Public Health and Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge). She earned her MBBS from Dhaka Medical College and later completed her Master of Public Health (MPH) at the University of Sydney, Australia. During her time in Australia, she contributed as an Honorary Technical Assistant to the HIV/AIDS Project at Westmead Hospital (2000–2001). She is currently pursuing her PhD in Public Health at Jahangirnagar University, focusing on mHealth interventions for tobacco reduction.
With over twenty years of teaching experience, Prof. Yasmin specializes in Public Health Nutrition, Reproductive Health, and Health Communication. As a committed researcher, her scholarly interests include public health nutrition, maternal and reproductive health, and tobacco control. She is also a prolific academic mentor, having supervised more than 800 MPH research projects to date.
Beyond her academic responsibilities, Dr. Yasmin plays influential roles in national public health advocacy and community welfare. She serves as the President of the Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network (BTCRN), contributing significantly to national efforts toward achieving a “Tobacco-Free Bangladesh by 2040.” She is also the Honorary General Secretary of Begum Rokeya Nari-O-Shishu Shasthya Unnayan Shanstha (BERNOSSUS), a charitable organization dedicated to community health and welfare.
Dr. Yasmin is a Life Member of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), a registered member of the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC), and the Vice-President of the Public Health Association of Bangladesh. In addition, she is the Editor of the SUB Journal of Public Health and the Journal of SUB.
